Where you stayed: On board sailing boats
Tour or pre planned: Tour – Sail Croatia
We did the traditional routes 4 (north from Split and back) and 2 (Split-Dubrovnik-Split) and can recommend both. On Route 4 there was no A+ grade boat on offer and we were accommodated on the Gulet "Vila Vrgade", which only takes 8 passengers. It was all great, but make sure you do not get allocated cabin No. 2, as the bed is only 90cm wide, and therefore totally unacceptable for two adults (unless you are on honeymoon !!!) On Route 2 we booked an A+ boat and were very fortunate in being accommodated on the new (maiden voyage early July 2011) "Liberty", an absolutely beautiful vessel.
There is a huge difference between A and A+ grade boats, although both have en-suite facilities, and you certainly "get what you pay for" - it is really worth spending the little extra. The B grade boats do not have private facilities. We would also recommend "below deck" cabins, as they are quieter and more private, especially when in dock, with other boats tied up next to yours. Also there is a huge difference between the Traditional and the Navigator boats - if you want to party all night, go for the Navigator, otherwise DO NOT!
We had a great time on both routes, the ports of call we’re lovely, the crew always friendly, even if at times there is a bit of a language problem, the food was great and our fellow passengers very interesting and a good mix of nationalities and ages.
