We stayed here during August/September 2012 both as a paying customer & a non-paying one (one of the perks of being a travel writer!). The rates are among the best you can get for a good location in London. Its right in the CBD, just next to Brick Lane where you can munch on their famous (or infamous, depending on where you eat!) curries.
We booked through booking.com, as the rates were a tad cheaper than directly through the hotel. Click on the following link for the hotel, London City Ibis.
Staff: Very friendly, fast check in/check out. Quite impressed.
Room: Pretty decent size, considering some of the boxes you get in other places in London. Nice big window to get ok views and bring in the fresh air & listen to the hustle & bustle below. Sound was contained well so very quiet in the room. However, air con didn't work on our 2nd stay, making for a rather sweaty night. Was a bit too late to call up & make a fuss once we'd found out. This can happen anywhere though.
Internet: I personally still don't get why hotels charge you for wifi. In this day & age, especially when many of the crappiest hostels in the world offer free wifi, all hotels should offer free wifi. You pay more of a premium to have a comfortable stay and all the amneties that smaller/cheaper places offer and more. There's a pc in the lobby with internet, but that was coin operated.
Brilliant. Right next to Aldgate east station, brick lane, and just a short walk to tower bridge/tower of London. Couldn't be happier. Its actually quite hard to get a well priced hotel in a good location, with good reviews!
Apart from the wifi & the air con breaking down, the price, service, cleanliness and location more than make this place worthy of a visit. 4 out of 5
